Here it is...
Well, Saboteur started out as an unnamed band comprised of Nathan Packwood (formerly of Despondency/drums), Brandon Sailings (formerly and currently of Oracle/guitar), Steven Bailey (formerly of Down Society/bass), Josh Deaton (formerly of Down Society/vocals), Mike Larson (formerly and currently or Oracle/guitar), and Nathan Herdt (author of this website and formerly of Down Society/guitar&vocals)...We started jamming one weekend about a week before school came into session for the Salem youngsters (August 10, 2003); we just collaborated and saw what we could come up with and in about 10 minutes we were already pounding out our first song "Save Me". We liked what we heard and started thinking of future plans as a band. Practice that day mainly focused around completeing the 'material' of "Save Me". All in all a good practice. We set up the times for the next week's practice and all said our farewells for this time. The next week we pounded out a couple more bits of 'material' and the issue came up of the name. Our homework: coming up with ideas for names which we'd all collaborate on the following week. Well, the next week came and Brandon could not make it (the beginning of a rotten streak) and we were all jokingly calling ourselves, temporarily, D.S.A or Divided States of America. I mean, we couldn't exactly use that as a fulltime name without Brandon's approval, right? The Following week Brandon showed up and we all decided on the name Saboteur. Catchy, refers to one who sabotages or practices sabotage. We begin work that week on another bit of 'material' while finishing up our first three. Well, it was the weekend of our first show, Brandon, the night of Friday, a day before the show, announces how Oracle has a possibility of getting back together and if that were to happen how he would leave the band. We didn't really want someone in the band who somewhere along the line if we were to get kinda far, would just drop out without notice; so we decided Brandon was to go. That night our practice came suddenly, without warning, and we all decided we were going to write some 'material' based off our frustration with Brandon's decision. The songs formation took well over two and a half hours (became our big hit at the end of our set the next day/September 13, 2003). Well we play our first show the next day, a benefit show for the family of Aaron Stevens, the former drummer of Salem's biggest band of back-in-tha-day, Countermeasure. He passed away early 2003 of complications due to diabetes. We played second to last and got a tremendous crowd response. A bunch of us went home to celebrate later that night. A week later, Saturday September 20, 2003, Mike announces how Oracle IS getting back together and how he'd love to help us out before we found a replacement, but how he was leaving. All this after he told so many people that IF Oracle was to get back together, he'd like to stay with us. Funny how things turn out. So the band takes a minor plunge...So far, as of today (Sept. 28, 2003) the band known as Saboteur is currently in limbo without a place to practice or enough dedication to keep it moving...More as it develops...
